The Fife Police Department uses electronic and laser speed measuring devices (SMD) in its speed enforcement efforts.

The courts of the state of Washington require that speed measuring devices undergo a testing and certification program for accuracy in order for evidence from the devices to be admissible in court proceedings. The Fife Police Department maintains a testing and certification program that requires each speed measuring device used by the Fife Police Department to be tested and certified for accuracy at least once every two years.
