Pedestrian Safety Month - June

The month kicked off at the free “Fit in Fife Day” on June 2nd at Dacca Park. Police Specialists distributed materials about pedestrian and driver safety, hand out wrist bands, and provide helmet fittings for children. Throughout the month of June, materials will be available to emphasize the need to be Wise Walkers. Bike safety is another important piece of the Pedestrian Safety Campaign. Patrol Officers will be randomly stationed around Fife and giving out “Safe Rider Citations” for free ice-cream cones at local McDonalds to children wearing helmets while riding throughout the entire summer.

A Wise Walker is a child who:

  • Looks both ways before crossing
  • Waits for a WALK signal
  • Avoids using hand-held devices while walking
  • Crosses quickly but safely

Fife Pedestrian Safety Month is a comprehensive campaign to promote pedestrian safety and educate the public about important pedestrian facilities designed to protect pedestrians and alert drivers. These devices include crosswalks, pedestrian traffic signals, pedestrian warning signs and lights, and enforcement equipment. The campaign targets both drivers and pedestrians.
